Dear Child Wise partners, clients and supporters,
As the end of the year is in sight, I am excited to share some of the 2019 highlights at Child Wise that have helped us further our mission and increase our impact in protecting children and young people from harm:
We now have a representative in every state and territory across the nation;
We have supported more than 200 child focused organisations through our in-house child safety training and over 30 through our consultancy services to strengthen internal child safeguarding capacity and ensure compliance with child safety principles and legislation.
We piloted our Community of Practice and now have over 200 members across the nation - a network of child safeguarding officers and other professionals tasked with keeping children and young people safe in their organisation. We are proud to have supported them in their crucial work via the resources and tools provided in the online Community of Practice portal.
We heard from 5 incredibly engaging experts in child safeguarding as part of our webinar series - ones you may have seen or heard at conferences throughout the year, and we have a fantastic line up for 2020.
This year we also piloted ‘Hearing the Voice of the Child’, an innovative Child Wise training program designed to help staff and volunteers empower children and young people to speak up about what makes them feel safe or unsafe in the organisations where they spend time. We know that children are more likely to feel valued and speak up in environments where they are empowered and are taken seriously. To this end, we are working on a unique, Australian first child-led conference, ‘I’m a Teacher, You’re a Teacher’ in partnership with House of Muchness which will take place on 6 August 2020.
We look forward to this and other projects in 2020 that will help us further our mission to empower children and to ensure their safety and wellbeing by supporting organisations where they spend time.
Please note the Child Wise office will be closed 24 Dec - 2 Jan for the holiday period.
If a child you are concerned about is in immediate danger, please call the Police on 000.
If you need to report an incident of child abuse or neglect, please refer to the Reporting Abuse and Neglect: State and Territory Departments Responsible for Protecting Children.
On behalf of the Child Wise team, I would like to wish you a safe and happy festive season.
