Support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people who have been sexually abused in organisations

The National Redress Scheme (the Scheme) is the government’s way of helping our mob who have experienced sexual abuse in places like resi care, schools, churches, sports clubs and other places.

We want you to know, you are not responsible for what happened to you and you are not alone. Applying for the Scheme could be a positive step to overcoming trauma and healing.

Through the Scheme you can get information on eligibility and free, confidential and culturally appropriate independent support services.

Watch the video and download the resources below to find out how you can get help.

Have you heard about the National Redress Scheme for victims of institutional child sexual abuse?

Many of the young ones in our mob have dropped out of school, run away from their communities or felt ashamed because of the sexual abuse they experienced at an organisation.

We want you to know, you are not responsible for what happened to you and you are not alone. Applying for the Scheme could be a positive step to overcoming trauma and healing.

Am I eligible to access payments and support under the rules of the National Redress Scheme?

You are eligible to receive support under the rules of the National Redress Scheme if:

  • You experienced sexual abuse at an organisation (like a school, foster care home, camp, sports group, or residential unit),
  • the abuse happened before you turned 18,
  • you are an Australian Citizen or permanent resident, and
  • you will turn 18 before 30 June 2028.

You don’t have to walk this journey alone
